Foley Catheter
Foley Catheter: is a thin tube that is
placed in the bladder to drain urine.
The Foley Catheter can be worn for
long periods of time. It is held in place
by a balloon filled with sterilized water.
Urine drains into a bag that can be
removed and disposed of accordingly.
The catheter can be used for people
who have incontinence issues or who
have undergone surgery making them
temporarily incontinent. A Foley
Catheter should be inserted by a doctor
or nurse as there is risk of bladder infection
associated with improper insertion or care.
The Foley Catheter is a very popular
catheterization device and has many
different types. The Foley Catheter
has been used since the 1930's.
