Formula
Formula - Formula is a modern artificial
substitute for human breast milk. Formulas
are usually based on either cow milk or soy
milk. The most common name brands of
formula are, ENFAMIL, GOOD START, and
SIMILAC . These brands come in all types,
such as, Concentrate, Lactose-Free, Low Iron,
Organic, Powder, Powder Sticks, Ready-to-Feed,
and Soy.
The standard milk-based formulas contain
heat-treated cow's milk protein (at reduced
concentrations), lactose and minerals from
cow's milk, vegetable oils, minerals and vitamins.
Soy-based formulas do not contain milk protein,
with added vegetable oils and corn syrup and/or
sucrose so people with alergies to dairy would
use this alternative formula.Formula is sold in
several forms:
Ready-to-use - This is the most expensive kind of
formula, but no mixing is necessary.
Concentrated liquid - This is a less expensive formula.
You mix the formula liquid with an equal part of water.
Powder - This is the least expensive formula. You mix
one level scoop of powdered formula with 2
ounces of water and stir well.
