Not mad, but I don't know where else to put this.

Our dog, Sandy, has passed away. She was a 12 year old toy poodle. I was hopeful she'd pull through, but she unfortunately took a turn for the worse, and was likely in a coma before she died. Luckily she didn't seem to be suffering.

I don't know what came over me, but I quickly wrote a poem in memory of our dog, and indeed, of all our animal friends that we've all lost over the years. Thank you all for indulging me and letting me post this.

"Life can be many things
cruel and joyous, fun and saddening
Pain offsets the joy it brings
Even though sometimes it's maddening

Without the dark to go with light
and sometimes someone to guide the way
We never truly know what's right
or how truly bright the dawn is the next day

To our companions that we carry through,
Our friends to share the heavy load
Know that I will always be thinking of you
Even as I continue alone down the road

You've been many things in this life
Both faithful partner and steadfast friend
Through all the hardship and all the strife
I thought perhaps our journey might never end

Today it happened and as I cry,
seeing your eyes fade into the night,
I never thought I'd see you die,
and my tear stained face doesn't seem right

Though I know in the end it's for the best
I can't help but feel sad as you leave
Knowing that your suffering ends and you finally rest
I will remember you always, even as I grieve

Thank you for bringing the love and joy
Faithful companion and dearest pet
The life we had that nothing could destroy
You're the greatest friend I've ever met."

Goodbye to those Halcyon Days, what once was, can never be again.

That was a very beautifully written poem! I am so sorry for your loss, I know from personal experience that it is so hard to go through losing a pet. Especially after 12 years, you had many great times together I am certain. You have my condolences and thanks for posting your poem!

Thank you ma'am. I used to write poetry all the time, but I hadn't done so in a while. I used to post them on poetry.com but the website, after publishing some of my stuff, took some of my poems down and I didn't have a backup for them. They never gave me an explanation, but oh well

We're moving into a new house within a few weeks, and we've already said we'll be getting another dog. I'm going to be getting my own dog also, even though I had to remind my dad that he had told me I could do so, he fought me a bit on it but relented. My mom and dad will likely get another toy poodle, as thats all my dad likes. Me on the other hand I'm debating between an Irish Setter or a Shiba Inu.

Anyway, thank you for the kind words, it felt like a physical hug and smooch on the cheek ^^ so I appreciate it.

Baby B, I am sorry for your loss sugar. The poem is a beautiful tribute.

Losing a beloved pet is just as devastating as losing a close friend.

Sometimes, animals are easier to bond with than people:
- They don't play mind games
- They don't start drama
- Relationships with them are much more simple
- They don't judge you - they don't care how trendy your clothes are, what you weigh, how you style your hair - or if you style it at all, and you don't need makeup to impress them.

I'd love to have a human friend who's even half the person my old dog, Summer, was.

She passed away years ago, and I still cry sometimes when I think about her.

My heart goes out to you.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Its unfair that dogs don't live as long as humans do its like losing a child and no matter how much you think your prepared it always hits you harder than you think. When you get your new dog it gets easier because you have a new baby to take care of especially if you get a puppy. Good luck sweety

Sandy was very lucky to have a great family like yours to love her, she had a great life because of you. You should find another dog as soon as possible there's a puppy out there that needs you.

My kitty of 18 years died in my arms a little over two and a half years ago. He was my buddy through thick and thin. He was always there waiting for me in the morning when I got off work, he always insisted on sleeping with me, and was the best friend I could ask for. He never judged me, but he loved me, and I loved him. He always made me happy.

I'm still not over him, nor do I think I ever will be.

Hang in there. I believe that you will see your beloved again.

OMG I cant even imagine your pain during this time. I'm so sorry for your loss.
