You know, they ARE a lot of work, but personally I think they feel so much better than the disposables. AND... part of the romance is the work thats involved.

I LOVE CLOTH DIAPERS! :D

AND RUBBER PANTS TOO. :D

Yes Bob, you are right: cloth diapers are a lot of work, but I remember that many mothers really enjoyed the ritual and prep of cloth diapering their babies.

First there was the washing and hanging out on clotheslines to dry.
Nothing smells better then a freshly washed diaper drying in the sun! :D

Then there was the folding of the diapers: each diapered was folded and then doubled, into neatly folded stacks to go into diaper bags, diaper hanpers, or on top of dressers which is where most moms kept them.

Then there was the actual diapering.
Most moms changed their babies on the floor, after assembling everything they needed.

Baby Powder
Diaper Pins
Vasoline
A wet washcloth (to wipe poopy, messy bottoms.)
And of course: DIAPERS!

Soft, fluffy cloth diapers, which were re-folded to fit the baby when changing them.

One of my favorite memories as a little boy, was coming into the living room and seeing my mom changing a poopy cloth diaper.

I loved seeing her wipe the baby's messy bottom with a wet washcloth, holding them by the ankles, and smiling at the baby as she wiped their dirty bottoms.

My mom would always playfully say, "Shooo! Somebody filled their pants."

And the smell of poop would linger in our living room long after the baby was powdered and diapered by my mom.
