I grew up watching Star Trek (with Kirk and Spock) amd in later years, fell in love with other Star Trek "spin-offs", (The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager.)

Although I DO NOT LIKE the most recent show, "Enterprise."

(I think "Enterprise" is a huge blunder in an otherwise wonderful 30 year span of great Star Trek shows. Which is why it only lasted 4 seasons, fans like myself hated it, and thought it betrayed everything Star Trek has stood for.)

My favorite Star Trek, is Deep Space 9, it has some of the most interesting and famous guest stars, that are really regular cast members. Great actors such as............

1. Andrew Robinson, plays "Garak", with a charming, but unsettling relesh. (He also played the wacko killer from the movie, "Dirty Harry".)

2. Louise Fletcher plays "Kai Winn", with the same devious, hateful smile that she had when she played "Nurse Ratchet" in the movie, "One Flew Over The Coo Coos Nest."

Any other Star Trek fans?

I am a HUGE "Star Trek" fan. When I was around 6 or 7, I used to watch the reruns of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy era on weekends. I don't know what drew me in, but the fact remains, I was totally hooked on the show. I'd gotten many episodes on videotape and I was, at that time, totally obsessed with the show.

After they took repeats of the original off the air, it was a long while before I ever really got back into it, but I was at my grandmother's house one day watching TV and they had a "Star Trek: The Next Generation" marathon, so I was watching it and, through that, realized how much I loved the show.

A few months later, working at Blockbuster Video, I'd taken advantage of my employee discount and bought Season 1 and Season 5 on DVD, but I some day hope to get the rest (as well as all three seasons of the original series).

I never really cared much for Deep Space Nine, but I absolutely LOVE "Star Trek: Voyager"! That's another show I'd gotten into through reruns, actually; I'd enjoyed it before, but now I'm really invested in wanting the DVDs.

Also, over the last five years, I've had the good fortune of meeting some of the stars, such as George Takei (Sulu, TOS), Levar Burton (Geordi, TNG), Denise Crosby, (Tasha Yar, TNG), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi, TNG), Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker, TNG), Malcolm McDowell (Dr. Soran, "Star Trek: Generations"), Tim Russ (Tuvok, "Voyager"), and Robert Beltran (Chakotay, "Voyager").

But, yeah...I am definitely a "Star Trek" fan! LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

(Speaking of that, to all you "Heroes" fans out there, Zachary Quinto [Sylar] is going to be playing "Starfleet Academy Spock" in J.J. Abrams' (Lost, Alias, Mission: Impossible 3) new "Star Trek" movie, out December 25th, 2008! DON'T MISS IT!!!)

Interesting topic Marty... I am a fan of Star trek myself.. but I was originally roped in by the next generation series.. not to say i didnt like the original series.. but the next generation series was more enjoyable to me while I was going through my teenage years.

Although I watched deep space nine, I wasnt a huge fan of it.. the fact that it was generally limited to the space station left me always wanting more.

Unfortunately I havent actually watched many of the voyager episodes so I cant actually comment on those at all.. and as for the enterprise series; I have caught a few episodes but like you found it disappointing.

I really love watchin star trek more than star wars. *ducks* i started watchin the reruns of ST:TNG and then kinda got into ST:DS9 but watching reruns of TNG and then voyager got me into it. Enterprise was a disappointment at the start but i think at the end it got better. It wasnt until a few yrs ago i started to get back into it. Ive watched all of TNG and DS9. DS9 is the one show i have a much better appreciation for that series and how it was reviewed. the character development and stories are awesome but when they did the dominion war and brought the defiant into the series it just got great.

sounds like i need to watch some more DS9.. maybe I shouldnt have been so harsh on it.. lol..

Yes Glen, you should give DS9 another look.

It was only more or less limited to the space station, in the first 3 years. (I say "more or less" because in those first 3 years they did do a few missions of exploration in small ships called "Runabouts". )

But then, at the begining of the 4th year, DS9 exploded with lots of action and thoughtful, mind-blowing shows like TNG. That year, on the very first show, they brought on Worf, as DS9's tactacial officer, and the Federation went to war with the Klingon Empire.

Then, in year 5, the Federation and the Klingon Empire kissed and made up, and joined forces to repel the invasion by the Dominion.

And in years 5, 6, and 7, the great Dominion war was on, and it was a fight to the death, with the Federration, in order to survive, lying, cheating, stealing, and even commiting genocide, in order to win.

In fact, DS9 is the ONLY Star Trek series that shows the "human" and "in-himan" sides of the Fedration. When "Section 31" of the Federation devlopes a germ to wipe out a whole race of people (i.e. Genocide), you know that Star Trek has crossed a line never before crossed in it's 40 year history of being "nicey, nice".

It was shocking to watch the wholesome Federation and "good-guy" Star Fleet desend down to the lowest level in fighting the war. But that was the whole point of the show: To show what happens to good and decent people when they are forced to fight for their very lives. Nothing is "off the table" in this war with the Dominion, and the writers of Star Trek DS9 wanted to get away from that "good-guy" immage of the Federation, and show what war is: Hell, horror, death and destruction.

This is the very reason some trek fans did not like DS9. They loved TNG, and Captian Picard would never, ever lie, cheat, steal, murder, or condone genocide...... but Comander Sisko would, and did, in order to win the war.

Also, DS9, more then any other Star Trek show, has had more guest stars then anyone!

It's amazing how many different actors have been on DS9 as compaired to TNG or VOY.

Anyway, give DS9 anothe look Glen, you will be glad you did.

will do Marty.. you have me sold.. lol.. I must have only watched the first few years of DS9.. i dont remember the war with the klingons or the dominions so seems i must stop and watch more in order to appreciate them fully

One of my Favourite characters though from DS( was Quark who ran the bar.. loved how he was always on the look out for a bargain and a quick buck.. lol.

One episode that i particularly enjoyed was set in the Bar and involved a game of 3D chess which if I remember correctly involved the person playing it being drawn into the game as one of the actual pieces.. my mind is a bit foggy on the details.. but it was a very entertaining episode from what i can remember.

anyway.. I will make sure I rectify my lack of DS9 knowledge soon. It does indeed sound like it improved sooo much from those early episodes.

Glen, marty was right, after season 3 it got sooo much better with the defiant being docked at the station. the ability of them being able to be cloaked and the klingon and dominion wars were just the best! though i have to admit jadzea was the best character.

ok.. lol I have taken the comments about DS9 on board..

so much so that it has sparked my interest and I actually went out and bought the complete box set.

Money i probably shouldnt have spent and didnt really have, but after a rather nerve wracking interview today i decided to spoil myself and grabbed my credit card and purchased them all. It will probably take me weeks to pay it off, if not maybe months, but I still think it is a pretty good buy and I will not only enjoy owning and watching them but can think of them as a collectors items since the boxed sets were a limited production.

I will let you know what I think after I have finished watching them all

The latest installment "Enterprise" is/was awful. I especially didn't like the theme song *barfs*. Yuck-ola all the way.

Yes, Enterprise is a bomb.

They have gotten away from what really made Star Trek great.
