Deliverance for Dan?

Dan sat motionless in the adult reference area of the library. His attention was completely absorbed by the book he had found. It was a psychology book. His eyes kept going over the same few paragraphs again and again. The first few words of the sentence he was reading were particularly what caught his attention.

‘Understanding paraphilic infantilism…’

This is what he had been looking for. This is something that helped him to understand that he wasn’t alone and contrary to his belief, not a freak, for there were others out there that liked to wear diapers.

Unbeknownst to Dan, he was being observed by a librarian. She had noticed him when he first walked in. Dan didn’t realise he was pretty good looking and often attracted the attention of girls. His lack of confidence in himself blinded him to that simple truth. He dressed in simple clothes but that in itself actually made him more appealing. His slightly mussed up hair and bookish nature all added to the over all effect. Emily found this effect very much to her liking and couldn’t help but look over at him every so often while she continued her work. She watched as Dan located book after book in the psychology area and eventually notice him find a book that he seemed relieved to find. He sat for quite some time motionless staring at a page. She began to wonder what had absorbed his attention so much to the point he looked like a statue.

Quietly Emily moved over to where Dan was reading and looked over his shoulder at the page he was staring at. The first few words she read burnt into her mind.

‘.. the desire to wear diapers..’

Emily let out a small gasp, enough to startle Dan from his reflection. Emily quickly made it look like she was busy, while Dan, afraid that he had been caught, closed the book he was looking at with a guilty look on his face.

Emily’s thoughts began to race. She had heard of people who liked to wear diapers on the internet, but never thought she would meet one. Well she couldn’t be sure she had met one, but the thought of a cute young man like Dan in a diaper did make her feel a little tingly all over. Her imagination ran down numerous paths in seconds and quickly wondered if Dan was the key that she had been looking for in her life. She carefully watched as Dan began to pack up his books and put them back in their correct places.

Dan, who had been so flustered at someone possibly looking at what he was reading, quickly packed everything up, grabbed his satchel bag and made good his escape while he could. It is a pity he didn’t take a few more moments and check his work station, for he would have noticed he had left behind his wallet.

Emily walked over to where Dan had been working and carefully picked up his wallet. She then walked over to her work station and opened it up. It had all of Dan’s details. Everything from his date of birth, to his university student card and what he was studying. It even had a bank receipt with the details of how much he had in the bank. But most importantly it had his phone number contained within. Emily sat quietly for a few moments wondering what she should do with it. Normally they would contact the owner and ask them to come and collect it, but Emily felt to do so would be letting a chance to get to know Dan better slip through her fingers.

Eventually she decided she would call him and arrange for him to collect it from where she lived. This gave her the chance to invite him in and strike up a conversation with him, and possibly set in to motion some of the ideas that were floating around in her devious little mind. Thankfully her shift finished in an hour and she had the whole afternoon to prepare for it.

Dan frantically looked through his bag again. It had to be there. Just his luck. He had lost his wallet. He sunk back into the sofa he was seated on and dejectedly began to cry. Ever since he had left home and came to study here, things had gone from bad to worse. His parents had forbidden him to follow his dream of becoming an artist.

The last time he spoke to them their final words were,

“If that is what you plan to do with your life you are no son of mine. Don’t come back crawling to us when you fail.”

To make matters worse, he lost his job a few weeks ago and the bills had began to grow while his bank account shrunk. In fact he was no longer sure how he would be able to go on paying for his small flat, let alone keep up with the costs of supplies for his art course.

The loss of his wallet was the final blow. He didn’t know what to do, or who to turn to since he was still new to this city.

It was precisely at this moment that the phone rang. Dan slowly got to his feet, wiped his eyes and cleared his throat to answer the phone.

“Hello? Dan speaking,” he spoke into the receiver with just a hint of a waver in his voice.

“Hello Dan, you don’t know me but my name is Ms Emily Dawson. I work at the library and found your wallet late this afternoon,” chirped Emily in a sing song voice. “Since I live so close to you I have brought it home with me and thought I would call you so as to save you walking all the way to the library tomorrow.”

Dan breathed a sigh of relief. One less problem to deal with.

“Thankyou so much, Ms Dawson. You can’t know how relieved I am to hear that you found it and I thankyou for contacting me. When would you like me to come collect it?” asked Dan.

“Well you can come over this evening if you like. Six o’clock ok with you? My address is 282 Whitechurch Avenue.” Emily stated matter of fact as if it was all settled.

Dan quickly wrote down her address and agreed to meet her there at six sharp. He then mentally figured out where Whitechurch Avenue was and realised it was only a few blocks away. In fact he often took an afternoon stroll up that street to clear his mind. He loved the big ancient trees that lined the road and all the houses looked so grand and old. Looking at the clock he decided it wasn’t too far away from six so he could go for a stroll now and be in time for his meeting with Emily. Maybe he could come up with a solution for his other problems while he was at it.
