Formula

Post by DommyMommyScarlet »

This is kind of because of our bottle or breast discussion. Do any of our abies like formula and if so what kinds?

Formula

Post by babysuzy »

Hi Scarlet
and all the curious mommies.

I like formula, but more for the feeling than the taste. I long to try breast milk fresh from the source, But that can be a tall order...even at a milk bar. But bottle feeding is such a major component of baby and AB life that formula is almost a given. Water is just not satisfying and too much juice is not good for baby either. I usually get Isomil Soy formula because milk products can give me a stuffy head. Cows milk is actually designed for baby cows...not humans.

Sometimes i like a fast flow nipple that just lets me enjoy the suck and swallow routine.(Why does that sound dirty?) Other times a slower flow nipple makes baby work harder and prolongs the session. I have also adapted sports bottles to create a baby bottle more in proportion to an AB.

It holds an entire can of formula and really gives baby a full tummy and lots of burping sessions along the way

I am still looking for that real life nursing mommy experience, but i will still be a bottle baby til then. I have on occasion rigged a novelty IV bottle with a small hose that mommy can attach with surgical tape just above the nipple on her breast. This lets it feed into the corner of baby's mouth as she feeds and is as close to breastfeeding as i have come. My mommy enjoyed the feelings as well as her nipple became enveloped in warm fluid as baby fed.

I also have some great evenflo glass nursing bottles and an antique ceramic bottle warmer. Those coupled with cloth diapers can really transport me back to earlier years.

Stay warm and wet all you wonderful mommies.

Wow, Suz...thanks for the great response. I have also tried the IV tube thing in the past being that I cannot make my own milk.

Yick, I hate formula. I definetly prefer the breast which I actually got to try once. A friend of mine, who is a bit on the freaky side or else I would have never asked, she was still breastfeeding her two year old. So I got up the nerve to ask if I could try it. I just wanted her to squeeze a little out but she told me just to go for it. It was the single best experience of my life so far. :D

Wow Lacy that sounds interesting.

Thanks for the run down, Suzy. Although I must ask what a Milk Bar is...other than Korova in a Clockwork Orange...

I'm not really into formula myself. I prefer some good ol cows juice in my bottle. I have been fortunate enough to have a friend of mine allow me to taste her breastmilk, it was great. not quite what I expected, it was much sweeter than I tought it would be. But definetly enjoyable. Babysuzy, you have a great idea there with the IV milk line for mommies who are not able to lactate for you.

Cow juice? lol . Love it. Nice to have you here louie. I tasted formula once and I have to say for me, uh bluck. Wow what a weird taste, but hey, if you like it then drink up. I wonder if there is such a job as Breast Milk Inspector for the FDA, and if so, where do you fill out the application?

never tried formula as an adult.. then again.. only ever tried breast milk as a child.. so I will reserve judgement until I get to try the real things

an explanation for milk bar.. it is a corner store or take-away shop. I think it is an english expression, one which followed us here to Oz.

i like the enfamil lactose-free. the reason why i like it is because it is the only thing that did not constipate my son or make him spit up!

I would just like to say, that I have tasted formula and can you say....GAG! Now I know some people LUV the stuff, but not me, it was so baaaaaaaaaaad. And since I don't get to suck on full boobs ladden with milky goodness, I have to say neither lol.

Great question Ms. Scarlet.

I've been lucky enough to have milk straight from a cow, from a nursing mom, and formula. All three, chilled, make a fine drink. I don't recommend drinking straight from the teat of a cow either

And Stacie, as my dad worked for the FDA, you'd be surprised some of things they did!

Your welcome. I just didn't get enough of real mothers milk. Maybe someday my sissy titties will have milk come in. And since it'll probably take some drugs to do that, maybe it'll come in chocolate flavored!
